Your ability to work alongside Artificial Intelligence will be a great asset

A recent surge in interest around the term "generative AI" has been observed, reaching a peak search interest of 100, according to Google, in the week of February 12th, 2023. The spark for this sudden fascination? The introduction of ChatGPT, an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, in November 2022.

Comparatively, just months before its launch in October, the search interest was significantly lower, registering at a mere seven. By December, it had ballooned to 34. In merely two months following its introduction, ChatGPT achieved a historical feat, amassing over 100 million users, the fastest growth for any consumer application. Alongside ChatGPT, other AI platforms like Google's Bard and Microsoft's Bing AI chatbot have also been causing a significant stir.

This impressive growth and high level of interest inevitably trigger a critical question for the Gen Z workforce: Will AI take away my job? The answer, contrary to popular belief, is likely no. Instead, AI is poised to revolutionize the workplace in ways that can make your job better. Here's why.

AI as a Job Creator, Not a Job Terminator

While it's understandable to fear that AI might replace human jobs, it's crucial to remember that every technological revolution in history has brought about a net increase in jobs. Yes, certain roles may become automated, but concurrently, new roles will emerge that we haven't even imagined yet.

The rise of AI is expected to create numerous new job opportunities, particularly in AI ethics, data analysis, and AI system management. For Gen Z, who are digital natives, this presents an exciting prospect. Your inherent understanding of technology equips you perfectly for these emerging roles.

AI as a Collaborator, Not a Competitor

AI's main advantage is its ability to handle repetitive tasks efficiently and error-free, freeing up time for humans to engage in more creative and complex problem-solving tasks. It’s not about machines working in place of humans; it's about machines working with humans. This concept, known as 'collaborative intelligence', leverages the strengths of both humans and AI to achieve better outcomes.

Imagine spending less time on mundane tasks like scheduling or data entry and more time on strategic thinking, creative brainstorming, or interacting with clients. This not only improves job satisfaction but also enables you to bring more value to your role.

AI as a Tool for Skill Enhancement

AI can be a powerful tool for learning and skill enhancement. Platforms like ChatGPT, Bard, and Bing AI chatbot can provide instantaneous feedback, offer a wealth of information, and simulate various scenarios for skill training. For instance, ChatGPT can help you improve your language skills, understand complex concepts, or prepare for job interviews.

As Gen Z individuals, your ability to adapt to new technologies is your greatest strength. Embracing AI can give you a competitive edge, enhancing your skill set and making you more marketable in the rapidly evolving job market.

AI as an Asset

AI is not here to steal jobs but to transform them. Rather than viewing AI as a threat, embrace it as a tool to improve your work, expand your skills, and create new opportunities.

Remember, in a world where AI is the future, your ability to work alongside it could be your greatest asset.
